The aim of „Wellenbrecher“ (Engl. “Breakwater”) is to create deep conversations to raise awareness for the UN Ocean Decade in German-speaking countries. 

In January 2025, we launched the German-language „Wellenbrecher“ podcast that interviews guests and how their work or industry contributes to a sustainable transformation, to the challenges of the UN Ocean Decade (see our Website or Instagram). You can listen to Wellenbrecher wherever you listen to podcasts (e.g., Podigee, Apple Podcast, Spotify). 

Starting in late September, we will launch Plankton & Popcorn. This is an ocean-themed film night featuring documentaries and panel discussions at ten universities in Switzerland, followed by Austria and Germany. It is one of the three winning projects of the Call for Collective Action 2025.

Wellenbrecher is an ECOP DACH and Youth4Ocean Project, accredited UN Ocean Decade activity, and endorsed WissPod scientific podcast.
Plankton & Popcorn is carried out with the support of the EU4Ocean Coalition, which is funded by the European Commission.

Middle and High School Level

I have taught 90-minute lessons for an 8th and 12th grade classes in the scope of the Rent-A-Scientist Schleswig-Holstein initiative in 2022.

During those 90 minutes, we discussed polar science or career paths to science but also had some hands-on practical work by looking at phytoplankton cultures under the light-microscope.

Undergraduate Students (BSc +)

I am experienced in teaching undergraduates (Master level) with >50 h of lectures ranging from statistics to ocean acidification.

I teach for the Blue Capacity Development (BlueCaD) Project of the ECOP Programme, where we held our first hybrid course in Malta in November 2025. See a summary video here.
