Officially starting my Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellowship
01/04/2026
I am beyond excited to announce that I am officially starting my MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship this month!
It’s been a journey of patience, to say the least. Back in February 2024, I received a fantastic score but landed just below the funding threshold. Then, ten months later, an out-of-the-blue email said that I had moved up the list and was being awarded the fellowship.
My project, ACUTE, tackles a critical climate question. Beneath the Arctic Ocean, massive amounts of methane are trapped in frozen sediments. As the ocean warms, this methane is starting to seep out. My goal over the next 18 months is to quantify how much of this gas methane-consuming bacteria can intercept before it hits the atmosphere. Stay tuned, I cant wait to find out either.
Plankton & Popcorn - An Ocean Movie Night in Basel
29/10/2025
We are in desperate times...The planet’s first catastrophic climate tipping point has been reached, with coral reefs facing widespread dieback, underscoring that the only way to avert catastrophe is to act urgently (Source: Stockholm Resilience Centre). However, science hasn't been able to convince politicians or the general public to act, so we will start targeting emotions.
As part of my project, Plankton & Popcorn, which was one of the winning projects in the Call for Collective Action 2025, we are organizing movie nights in 10 cities across the DACH region. I moderated the event alongside the amazing volunteers, Selina, Pia, Lisa, and Claudia, from Uni Basel.
The ocean starts in Basel with the Rhine!
Let's talk about Scientific Writing
29/07/2025
The ECOP Programme's BlueCaD Project x ASLO held a joint webinar to discuss and offer indispensable tips that empower you to elevate your scientific writing. I really recommend watching Dr. Jim Cloern's presentation (15:04-42:50).
Following the presentation, I was really grateful to be part of the panel alongside Dr. Jim Cloern and Dr. Bridget Deemer. Find the full video on the ECOP YouTube Channel.
Science-Policy
1st National Ocean Conference in Berlin, Germany - 6th to 7th May, 2025
One Ocean Science Congress in Nice, France - 3rd to 6th June, 2025
3rd UN Ocean Conference in Nice, France - 9th to 13th June, 2025
Spring and summer were filled with ocean advocacy. I attended the first-ever National Ocean Conference in Germany, the One Ocean Science Congress, and the third UN Ocean Conference.
In addition to attending, I had the privilege of being on panel in the "Green Zone", presenting the BlueCaD project at the OOSC, listening to ECOPs voice their barriers in attending such conferences, having a side-event in the Cryosphere Pavillion, and moderating the panel discussion “Bridging Ocean Realities: joining future perspectives from early career and established ocean professionals for the ocean we want” on the research vessel METEOR as a side-event to UNOC3. So so so many amazing opportunities and people!
Why was this so important, especially this year? 2025 marks the halfway point of the UN Ocean Decade, a global initiative aimed at raising awareness about the ocean and the science needed to move forward. So, science-policy is at its peak and I think we need to use this momentum to advocate for the ocean.
New paper in Frontiers in Marine Science
23/01/2025
Time series stations are temporally resolved datasets that provide one of the most valuable tools scientists have to characterize ocean climate, biogeochemistry, and ecosystem change. (International Group for Marine Ecological Time Series, 2017).
However, the landscape of devices, platforms, and networks used to observe our oceans are inherently complex. To make it a little easier to navigate for early career ocean professionals, I wrote this publication:
Navigating the current landscape of ocean observations: an overview from platform infrastructures to networks related to ocean time series. Front. Mar. Sci. 11:1363863.

Launching our ECOP Germany, Austria, and Switzerland Project
the Wellenbrecher Podcast
01/01/2025
The project „Wellenbrecher“ (Engl. “Breakwater”) gives a voice to different people who are active in the UN Ocean Decade within German-speaking countries. The project kicks off with a podcast that interviews people ranging from decade committee members to individuals who are connected to the ocean. We introduce our guests and how their work or industry contributes to a sustainable transformation, to the decade challenges, and ask for specific examples of how other individuals can get involved to contribute towards the UN Ocean Decade. In addition, online community meet-ups “Kaffeejause” are organized, which allows listeners to ask questions to recent podcast guests. Our vision is that the podcasts serve as a basis for conversation and future events such as panel discussions or live events.
Let's create deep conversations to raise awareness for the UN Ocean Decade!
You can listen to Wellenbrecher on our Website or wherever you listen to podcasts (e.g., Spotify, Apple).
Enjoy!
Launch of Blue Capacity Development
11/11/2024 - 15/11/2024
BlueCaD has held its first in-person course specifically targeting 15 ECOPs from and/or based in the Mediterranean region (from Southern Europe, Northern Africa, and Western Middle East). The training was supported by Ocean Teacher Global Academy and hosted at the AquaBioTech Group facilities in Mosta, Malta from 11-17 November 2024. For more information on the ECOP Website and the press release of the IOI.
Ready, Set, Action!
08/04/2024 - 13/04/2024
Ocean Decade let's get started! Climate change is becoming our reality, but instead of more scientists, we need everyone else to get involved. The Ocean Decade Conference 2024 was the delayed start to the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, a 10-year framework from 2021 to 2030. I was humbled to represent ECOPs from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland and slightly nervous but committed to asking questions to enhance engagement of early careers in all fields "Can you give specific examples of how ECOPs in your program?". We need everyone and if you want to get involved please engage with us on our LinkedIn or via germany@ecopdecade.org
Thank you Prof. Dr. Werner Petersen Foundation

WOW! I was among the early career scientists recognized for her excellent PhD thesis and awarded the Young Talent Award by the Prof. Dr. Werner Petersen Foundation. The Prof. Dr. Werner Petersen Foundation awards scholarships, knowledge transfer prizes, and young talent prizes to doctoral theses. The GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel published a press release about the ceremony. Thank you for recognizing our work!
